The Challenge

Where would today's world be without printed and electronic media?

How big a challenge would your life or the life your own child be without the skills to read?

Each day most of the world's population faces the challenges of illiteracy.

Our goal is to help the children of Happy Home and the people of the local community, both young and old, raise their levels of literacy.

The Response

Your donation of new or good quality second hand books can make an enormous long term difference to the the lives of adults and children at Happy Home and the surrounding community.

 

 

What Is Needed

We are interested in a wide range of new and second hand books, particularly:

  • Primary and secondary school textbooks;

  • Undergraduate level textbooks; and

  • Reference books - encyclopedias, atlases and dictionaries (must be less than 5 years old).

Other books and publications which can be put to good use include:

  • Popular and classic adult fiction;

  • General knowledge and factual books with relevance to international readers;

  • Professional training including nursing, accountancy, law, teaching and librarianship; and

  • Vocational training including electronics, engineering, carpentry, sewing and garment making, vehicle maintenance, office skills, plumbing and crafts.
Please Note:
The climate in Kenya is very hot and around Kopere, can be quite humid. Books will be extensively used , so it is vital that all second hand books are in a very good condition, less than 10 years old (or less than 5 years old if a reference book).
