Ongoing support for the daily needs of the children and staff of Happy Home remain a challenge and must not be forgotten among the efforts to build the new Happy Home. Provision for food presently comes from three key sources:
There is considerable scope for increasing food production from the Happy Home land but this would necessitate additional costs to hire farm labour etc. The focus of attention is therefore inevitably drawn to the timeliness and sufficiency of funding to ensure there is an adequate supply and reserve of food for Happy Home and the means for increasing production from the land. Although increased food production would also introduce the prospect of selling any surplus, the relative remoteness of the present Tamu site from local markets would make this a challenge unless the issue of transportation could be addressed. |

At present only essential maintenance of the buildings and infrastructure of Happy Home are being undertaken. Given present plans and timescales for the development of the new Happy Home, this is likely to remain the case. However, once the new Happy Home at Kopere is occupied, it will be necessary to identify and make budgetary provision for maintenance of the new facilities. |
