Update from Happy Home (May - July 2026)

The beans which were planted in March have been harvested earlier than usual. They expect to be able to harvest the maize around about now. When the beans were planted, the rains came early and were very heavy - whether that was the cause of the early harvest, we don't know.

The school continues to develop. The primary school has children in class 6, soon to move up to class 7. Class 7 is the first year of Junior Secondary school in Kenya and is fee paying. To accommodate class 7, a new classroom is needed for which funds are being sought. The hope is to have the classroom built during August ready for occupation in September.

The Trustees also want to establish a boarding school on site for Junior Secondary School age pupils. The aim is to provide a better education for children of that age and also be able top provide better care for some of them. The Trustees have had the OK from the Health Dept regarding the suitability of the site being used for boarders and they are now awaiting an inspection from the Education Dept. They hope to get their OK by September in order to have children boarding for the start of the new term in January.

One of the Kenyan Trustees and the manager of the site at Happy Home, continue to visit as many of the children in care with their guardian families as possible. However the distance of some of them from the site and the travelling conditions make this difficult in some cases.

Please continue to pray for

• the children under care in their guardian families and for their foster parents.

• the development of the school on site; that families are able top pay the required fees and that funding will be forthcoming for the capital works needed.

• the continuing good health of the children, the staff, the workers and the Trustees;

• their plans for having boarders on sight. They could take up to 56 children altogether in the long term.

• for the visits that are being undertaken to children in care, that these can be undertaken safely and any issues found can be resolved quickly.
