We continue our conversation with William, who is vice chairman of the Trustees in Kenya, as James is visiting family in the USA.

Unfortunately, James was taken ill when he was in America. He was hospitalised for a time but is now back with his son and daughter. He is apparently very weak and is not eating a lot. No one is sure when he will be able to travel back to Kenya.

All of the other trustees are well and were able to be present at the giving of the laptops to those going on to Further Education (see the separate news item on the topic). Guardian families were also present to see the children in their care receiving the items for use in their courses. These gifts were only made possible by generous financial support from our donors.

Joseph drove himself to the event and back home despite having his leg plastered and using 2 crutches to get around, This was due to his driver not being available.

The harvest of maize was gathered in at the back end of August and the surplus will be sold very shortly. The planting of beans and maize seed is about to be sown in readiness for the short rains. However, the forecast for these rains is not very promising.

The Government leased the Sugar Cane Factories to Private Investors and they are now laying off the local workers. There are four sugar cane processing factories in Western Kenya at Chemelil, Muhoroni, Nzoia and South Nyanza, with Chemelil being the closest to Happy Home .This decision by the government is not only causing a lot of pain for those affected, but it is causing a lot of uncertainty within the local economy and communities.

For Prayer:

  • James, that he makes a good recovery and will soon be able to fly home to Kenya

  • Pray for the children and young people as they start new terms.

  • Pray for the Guardians who have been given the responsibility to look after an orphaned child.

  • Pray for good weather for the new planting season.

  • Pray for everyone affected by the redundancies in the Sugar industry and the uncertainty that is being caused.

  • Pray for ongoing recovery for Joseph

  • Give thanks for the harvest.
